Our Story

We’re Reylita and Stephan — the couple behind Marriage in Hong Kong.

Our journey began with our original website and blog, meet-the-philippines.com, where we shared not only our experiences in the Philippines but also the story of how we got married in Hong Kong. Along the way, we discovered just how convenient and advantageous Hong Kong is for international and foreign couples looking to tie the knot.

Over time, more and more people started reaching out to us with questions about our experience. That interest eventually grew into something bigger — and that’s how we found ourselves starting a business dedicated to helping other couples get married in Hong Kong.

So, here’s how it all began!

2015

Our wedding in Hong Kong

Getting married in Hong Kong was our final straw.

After further research into how much effort it takes, getting married in Hong Kong seemed manageable and relatively easy to do, given proper planning. We did exactly that and were finally able to get married in Hong Kong.
A day of liberation.

2016

The start of our service in German– Heirat in Hongkong (Marriage in Hong Kong)

Shortly after our own wedding — with Reylita already living with me in Germany — we began to see just how many other couples were in need of a simple and reliable way to get married. It became clear that Hong Kong offered the perfect solution.

Helping others have the same smooth and joyful experience became a heartfelt mission for us. Every time we guide a couple toward a future together — instead of being kept apart by bureaucracy — it brings us genuine happiness.

What began in 2016 as a small trial with just a few couples quickly gained momentum. It wasn’t long before we faced a big decision: should I leave my job and take the leap into building a full-time wedding service in Hong Kong? The answer came quickly — yes.

2017

The start of our company in Germany and Hong Kong

What started on my laptop in our living room, quickly had to be put on a more stable and professional foundation. We founded our company MIH (short for Marriage in Hong Kong) in Germany and its sister company in Hong Kong.

The next step was to build our very own website, where we try to explain and elaborate just how many advantages a wedding in Hong Kong entails; as it’s not always so easy to understand at first.

2018

Heirat in Hongkong goes international – Welcome to Marriage in Hongkong.com

In 2017, we personally accompanied most of our couples through their weddings. But as demand grew, it quickly became clear that this approach wouldn’t be sustainable in the long run.

During our following stays in Hong Kong, we focused on building and training a reliable team — a process that required a lot of time, energy, and dedication. But in the end, we succeeded.

A major milestone came in 2018 with the launch of our English-language website. We soon realized that it wasn’t just German couples facing overwhelming bureaucratic hurdles — couples from all around the world were struggling with the same challenges. That’s when we knew: it was time to go international and start helping couples globally!

2019

Growing our little company

Back in 2017, we were personally involved in nearly every wedding we arranged. But as demand continued to grow, it became clear that this hands-on approach could only take us so far.

During our following visits to Hong Kong, we focused on training and building a dependable local team — a process that required significant time and effort, but ultimately paid off.

Another major milestone came in 2018: we launched our website in English. It quickly became evident that it wasn’t just German couples facing overwhelming bureaucracy — couples from around the world were struggling with similar challenges. That was our cue: it was time to go international and start helping couples everywhere say “yes” in Hong Kong!

2020

Covid and its consequences

2020 began much like 2019 had ended — full of momentum and promise. But it soon became clear that the world was heading toward something no one could have predicted: a global lockdown and an unprecedented halt to international travel.

What followed was the most challenging period we had ever faced as a business. Overnight, our couples could no longer fly to Hong Kong, and weddings came to a complete standstill.

All we could do was support and reassure our clients while hoping that borders would reopen and love stories could continue again soon.

2021 and 2022

No end in sight

As if 2020 weren’t already challenging enough, the effects of the coronavirus seemed endless.

In response, we made the difficult decision to stop taking new bookings and even temporarily shut down our website shop. We couldn’t, in good conscience, accept any more reservations when the global restrictions showed no signs of easing.

At the same time, many couples who had already booked with us requested refunds. However, we also felt a deep responsibility to our dedicated team in Hong Kong, and we were determined not to let them down.

There were several moments when we teetered on the edge, and we seriously considered the possibility of bankruptcy. We only managed to stay afloat thanks to our personal savings and the generous support of family and friends.

In an effort to honor our commitment to our clients, we offered those already booked with us a lifetime guarantee to marry with us whenever the situation allowed — with the hope that, eventually, the pandemic would come to an end.

To be completely honest, there were times we felt utterly helpless and unsure whether our business would survive the impact of the virus

Attractive Call to Action Text

In December 2022, the moment we had been waiting for finally arrived! After nearly three years of uncertainty and standstill, we were finally able to help our couples get married in Hong Kong once again. It felt like an early Christmas miracle!

Not only were we able to help our loyal clients fulfill their dream weddings, but we also welcomed new couples from all over the world.

Though the first few months were challenging and financially draining as we rebuilt everything, we knew the only way from here was up.

We were back — more energized, hopeful, and excited than ever before.

Your Stephan and Reylita

P.S A big thank you to all our couples. It was, is, and remains a great pleasure to help you on your way to a future together.
